What's SEO?

SEO, short for Search Engine Optimisation, is a form of online marketing consisting of optimising a website by improving internal and external aspects in order to increase the quantity and quality of the traffic the website receives from search engines. Contrary to any sales hype you may read before, there are no software products that can automate the process. If you can use iSmart Create, you can start optimising your website for search engines. If your website is in a very competitive online environment, you might want some information about iSmart SEO. Feel free to contact one of our representatives for more details.

Finding Keywords for your Website

Knowing what internet users type into search engines to find your product or service is essential. There are many tools to help you discover which keywords are profitable and help you decide which terms to optimise your website for. Google Keyword Tool is probably the most popular tool at the moment.

Optimising the Meta Tags of your Website

Meta tags allow search engines to identify the content of web pages. They are hidden on the page but can be viewed from the backend interface of the website, and by search engines of course... Meta tags contain a description of the page, keywords, locations... There are two different ways to optimise meta tags with iSmart Create. The first way is a quick and easy way. You can start the optimisation of your website within minutes. The second way is also accessible but might take you a bit more time. However, we strongly recommend you the second way if your website is in a very competitive online environment.

1. Search Engines

A quick and easy way to optimise your website

In iSmart Create, click on the Search Engines tab (next to the Navigation tab) and add a description, keywords, subjects and location in the dedicated fields. This information will be applied to every single page of your website, without exception.

Search Engines

Search Engines

This information is used by search engines to rank your website in their results. It is important to include as many good keywords as possible. Once these fields are complete, you must let search engines know that they should crawl your website and index its pages. The details specified here will be used by the search engines' crawlers when indexing the pages of your website. You may have already received a notification email from our team explaining that a sitemap of your website has been submitted to Google and Yahoo! sitemaps facilities. If so, you don't have to worry about letting search engines know about your pages. If you didn't receive any notification email, or for more information, please contact our search engines expert at seo@ismartsoftware.com

2. Page Properties

Optimise every single page of your website

In iSmart Create, select an existing page and click on the Properties button... Keep in mind that the information you will enter in these fields are dedicated to the page and not to the entire website.

SEO - Page Properties

Page Title

Properties > Rename...

Ensure you add a relevant description of the page in your page title. Try to place your top keywords but keep the description clear. If this is the home page, add a relevant description of the website. Avoid naming your home page "Welcome" or "Home"; it doesn't give search engines any useful information about your business. The page title will appear on the top left of web browsers.

Search Keywords

Properties > Search Keywords

Ensure you add keywords relevant to the page. Keywords shouldn't be repeated more than two or three times. There is no need to 'stuff up'.

Search Description

Properties > Search Description

Ensure you put a full description of the page. Descriptions are often used by search engines to describe your website on results pages. Try to include your top keywords. Keep in mind that most search engines will only display the first twenty words of your description. There is no need to write a whole paragraph.
